Even though Independence Day wasn't "typical" this year, I hope you all still had a great and safe holiday. The Connecticut State Police are always sure to increase their patrols on large holidays like this one.

This year, enforcement for the holiday weekend started on the evening of July 1 through 11:59 pm on Sunday, July 5. During this time, the Connecticut State Police responded to 6,520 calls for service, with 245 motor assists. There were approximately 271 accidents, 49 with injury, 1 which of serious nature in Orange, and 1 fatality in Willington.

In the time period of 6 pm on Wednesday, July 1 through 11:59 on July 5, Troopers arrested 29 individuals for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Nine (9) of those arrests stemmed from motor vehicle collisions. There were 279 citations issued for speeding, 12 for seat belts, and 748 for hazardous moving violations (including unsafe lane change, following too closely, move over, etc.).

In all to date, as of July 1 through July 6, CT State Police have investigated 7,184 calls for service, 652 speeding violations, 75 seat belt violations, and 1,859 total violations including unsafe lane changes, following too closely, cell phone use, speeding, seat belt, etc. There were also 50 DUI arrests, 248 investigated accidents, 51 accidents with injury, and luckily, 0 accidents regarding fatality.
