As high school seniors begin to graduate and college can be seen over the horizon, the thought of student loans and debt is ever present. Thanks to the Board of Regents for Higher Education, free community college is coming to Connecticut for the Fall 2020 semester.

On Thursday, June 18, 2020 The Board got funding approved for their $3 million PACT plan to offer free community college to students for the fall semester. This includes only the fall and would have to be renewed thereafter to continue the program.

The plan outlines that a student can apply for this opportunity if they fit the following qualifications:

  • Student must be a graduate from a public or private high school in Connecticut
  • Student must be a first-time college student
  • Attend community college full-time (12+ credits a semester)
  • Student must partake in a degree or a certificate program
  • Students from all financial backgrounds can apply
  • Students must complete the application by July 15, 2020 to qualify
