Connecticut to Allow Free Unlicensed Fishing for a Day

According to the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection you can fish for free this Saturday. They also say you do not need a license to fish Saturday as they celebrate "FREE Family Fishing Day” throughout the State. DEEP Commissioner Katie Dykes had this to say:

Free fishing day is a special opportunity to turn down the noise of everyday life and connect with the natural world around us. For some, it's a first exposure to fishing. For others, it's a long-overdue return to something we enjoy. I hope you will join my family in participating in this state-wide event.

You can go it alone or participate in a number of fishing events. The closest one to us is at Merwin Meadows Park in Wilton, CT from 9am-2pm where they are hosting a fly fishing clinic. While you can fish for free/without a license on Saturday, it does not mean there are not rules. All The CT fishing guidelines/regulations still apply and you can see the full listing on the DEEP website. Here are just a few:

• Oyster Toad Fish need to be a minimum of 1lb and 10." If it's 9" your in DEEP s---
• Gray Triggerfish need to be a minimum of 4lbs and 15."

Hit your local bait & tackle and get crackin', it's a fish fiesta this Saturday. Put on a big, dumb hat, rock the rubbers and get to fishin'. I'll pass, call me for the fish fry. I wonder if Kenyan gun fishing is cool?
