Connecticut Toddlers Narrowly Avoid Serious Injury After 10-Inch Spike Hits Car

A Connecticut family is very lucky to have avoided a serious tragedy this weekend after a metal spike came crashing through their vehicle and just barely missed two small children.

According to a social media post from the Fairfield Fire Department, both a 2-year-old and a 3-year-old were strapped into their car seats as the vehicle they were traveling in was headed along Fairfield's Lockwood Road. Suddenly, a landscaper's commercial lawn mower kicked up a 10-inch metal spike (pictured above), launching it through the air for 20 feet before it came crashing through the glass of a rear window of the family's vehicle.

Authorities say the spike only missed the faces of the young children by inches before it bounced off of the opposite window, landing on the floor of the vehicle right in between the two kids.

After being examined by the local Fire-Rescue and American Medical Response personnel, it was discovered that the children were miraculously found to have only sustained minor injuries from the broken glass.

In the statement, Lieutenant  Robert Smith of the Fairfield FD said “that in just a matter of inches an injury may have occurred resulting in a very tragic story.”
