When it comes to Connecticut's ozone layer, every county scores a big fat 'F.'

According to the Hartford Courant, in the latter part of April, the American Lung Association released its 'State of the Air' report. The facts and figures point to Fairfield County, CT. as having the highest level of ozone pollution in the New York City metro area.

The Hartford/East Hartford area ranked #23 in the nation for ozone pollution. Here is what Ruth Canovi, advocacy director for the lung association's Connecticut chapter had to say about the new report,

Connecticut residents should be aware that we're breathing unhealthy air, driven by emissions from power plants and extreme heat as a result of climate change, placing our health and lives at risk.

The state has taken legal action to block Trump's plans to ease restrictions on coal- and oil-fired power and industrial plants. Asthma rates in Connecticut far exceed the rest of the nation because of ozone pollution and unless serious steps are taken in the immediate future to control emissions, Connecticut will see more deaths from pulmonary disease.

There is some good news in that 'State of the Air' Report. The U.S. has been able to reduce particle air pollution over the last year due to the clean-up of coal-fired power plants and the pullback of old dirty diesel engines.

According to the American Lung Association, there are 95,000 children with pediatric asthma, 305,000 adults suffering from asthma, and 164,000 adults with COPD. The facts of climate science are conclusive. A worldwide catastrophe is in the making. The only question is when.
