COVID Pandemic Forces Another Geno Auriemma Restaurant To Close

Call it another casualty of the Coronavirus as Geno Auriemma has been forced to close his Storrs Italian Restaurant, Geno's Grill.

It's been happening to restaurants all over the country, and despite his winning reputation, UConn Womens Basketball coach Geno Auriemma had no choice but to close his Storrs Italian Restaurant that bears his name.

According to ctpost.com, the restaurant had shut down in mid March when the stay at home orders were issued by Governor Lamont, now, like many businesses, there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Here's the official statement from the restaurants website:

After many great years of being a part of the University of Connecticut / Storrs community, we are sad to announce that we have made the difficult decision to close Geno’s Grille. We have truly enjoyed our time here and having the opportunity to serve our loyal customers, and we extend our thanks and best wishes to our patrons, staff and the UConn community for all of its support over the years.

Geno's Grill had been open in Storrs since 2013, and was part of a small chain of Restaurants that have been operated by Auriemma, who's had a tough year with his other properties as well. Earlier this year the basketball themed restaurant at Mohegan Sun closed, and now Geno's Grill has closed it's doors.

Auriemma has one more restaurant left that will remain open, he still currently operates Café Aura in Manchester.
