CT Lowe’s to Close, Danbury Appears Safe for Now

Across the country, 20 under-performing Lowe's stores are being shut down by Lowe's Companies Inc. and one of them is right here in Connecticut.

According to the Hartford Courant, the Danbury Lowe's has been spared, but the Lowe's store in Orange will be one of the 20 that will be shut down. Second-quarter sales for Lowe's were around $21 billion, which is not too shabby, but their main big-box competitor, Home Depot weighed in with $31 billion in sales for that same quarter.

The good news is that Lowe's management will do their best to find jobs for workers at the Orange location at other Connecticut Lowe's stores. The closings are due to more customers shifting to online sales and specialty retailers.

Lowe's plans on closing the stores by February 1, but there is one more piece of good news for home improvement warehouse shoppers. To provide, in corporate speak, an "orderly wind-down," Lowe's management has announced there will be store closing sales for most of their locations. I've got two words for you: Snow Blower!
