Let's compare. Which way is quicker to New York City: train or by car?

Depending on the time you leave the Danbury Train Station, your trip to NYC could take from 2 to 3 hours. By car, you can be in the city within 90 minutes. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could hop a train out of Danbury and be in the Big Apple in 90 minutes?

According to the Hartford Courant, Danbury Mayor, Mark Boughton is kickin' around some ideas about a new level of express train service from Danbury to New York. One of those ideas is to use an abandoned rail line called the Maybrook Line which at one time served Danbury, Newtown, Bethel, and Derby in Connecticut along with Putnam, Dutchess, and Orange counties in New York long before cars were invented.

We're talking about a hefty price tag to the tune of $50 to $70 million to get it done. Currently, the Maybrook Line is privately owned by the Housatonic Railroad Company and because it was abandoned, is now severely overgrown plus it would require track replacement work.

DOT spokesperson, Judd Everhart told the Courant that a feasibility study would be needed to study if it would actually be worth it financially. President and CEO of the Greater Danbury Chamber of Commerce, PJ Prunty said,

Having a direct connection from Downtown Danbury to Grand Central would be a game changer, not only for downtown, but greater Danbury as a whole.
