A bit of chaos ensued in Danbury earlier today (Dec. 1) after a police officer spotted a vehicle that he knew to be stolen driving in the downtown area.

According to the Danbury Police Department, the local officer was working an extra duty job right near Main Street and Center Street, when at around 10:35 AM, the officer saw the allegedly stolen car and approached the vehicle. The report says that at that point, the operator of the car sped off driving.

While calling the scene into dispatch, the officer followed the stolen car southbound from Main Street to the area of 13 Mountainville Road, where the driver lost control, heading off of the road and rolling over. Both the adult male operator and an adult female passenger were then transported to Danbury Hospital and are being treated for serious injuries.

The Connecticut State Police will be conducting an overall investigation of the incident, while the Danbury PD will conduct and internal investigation of their own.
