We have some proud news to share about an outstanding student right here in the area. In fact, he's about as well-rounded of a student that is even humanly possible.

Hamlethub.com has announced that out of the 1.6 million high school students in the running for the National Merit Scholarship, one of the finalists is Danbury’s own Daniel Michael. Matt Byrnes, the head of Daniel's school had this to say to hamlethub.com:

We're all very happy that Daniel is being recognized for his achievements, not just as a scholar and a budding scientist, but as an athlete, artsit, actor, journalist, and all-around contributor to the Wooster community.

My goodness! How does he even have time for all of that?!

In the fall of 2016, students could become eligible by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Shortly after taking the exam, the Wooster senior was notified that he was one of the 15,000 semi-finalists of this prestigious distinction.

The nail-biting wasn’t over yet. Daniel had to send in grades, his course study and a personal essay. But all of this will be well worth it. There is more than $32 million dollars in this scholarship fund that 7,500 students will share.

And now, we wait. The scholarship board is reviewing everything, including recommendations and a close look at how well-rounded the finalists are.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that when The National Merit Scholarship winners are announced in May, Daniel Michael’s name will be among them.
