A Danbury eighth-grader has earned one of the country's top science awards!

Gabriella "Ella" Brown is one very intelligent young lady. She attends school at Westside Middle School Academy in Danbury and according to the Danbury Patch has been named as one of the Top 300 MASTERS in the 2019 Broadcom MASTERS, a program of Society for Science and the Public. The following are highlights from last year's Broadcom Masters.

A winner of several academic awards, Ella has now earned an invitation to the Broadcom MASTERS National Competition 2019. The Broadcast Masters consists of the top 10 percent of the 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade projects in Society-affiliated fairs across the country.

Last spring, Ella earned a first-place for seventh-grade Life Science with her project titled, "Design, testing, and optimization of Kombucha scoby-based biofilms." Scoby-based what now? That was when she earned the invitation to the Broadcom MASTERS National Competition.

Thirty of the Broadcom Top 30 Masters will be chosen as finalists by a nationally ranked panel of scientists, engineers, and educators on Sept.18 to compete in a four-day STEM competition for more than $100,000 in awards and prizes. Go get 'em Gabriella 'Ella' Brown! You make Danbury proud!!
