Danbury Teen Identified, All Aspects of Her Passing Under Investigation
The young Danbury woman who tragically died by suicide has been identified by her parents as Hailey Nailor.
A press release from the Danbury Police Department reports that while Nailor stood atop the fifth floor of the Danbury Fair Mall's parking garage, police received a call asking them to check on the young woman. By the time Danbury police arrived at 1:20 pm, the unthinkable had already happened.
Police have already begun their investigation on the tragedy while school officials are looking into the possibility that bullying was a factor. Her family is doubtful that bullying played a role in her death. The most recent press release from the DPD says that all aspects of her death are being investigated by the Special Victims Unit, including a possible social media influence.
According to a NewsTimes article, friends and family described Hailey as caring, funny and loved rap music sometimes even writing her own lyrics. Hailey also battled mental illness through her short life. Her teenage years were filled with anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. Her family explained that Hailey's battle with her mental health issues escalated during the last two years.
Hailey seemed to improve after she spent three long-term stays in residential programs. Services for Hailey have not yet been scheduled but her close friend, Maria Garcia is working on scheduling a candlelight vigil at the mall this Saturday. Garcia posted her thoughts about her friend on Facebook, writing:
She was a great friend to me and always had my back through everything as well to many others. It's heartbreaking to know she went the way she did and I wish with every ounce of me I could have helped her make the right decision.
