Highway, Public Works and Transportation departments have been taking advantage of the lower commuter volume during the shutdown to take care of some road construction projects. The Metro North railroad will also be doing some work on the Danbury line that may affect you if you are a commuter to New York City.

Danbury's Metro North branch will move from train service to bus service starting this Saturday morning (May 16.)

Metro North announced that the rail service from Danbury to South Norwalk will be replaced by bus service until further notice, to support track work and other infrastructure improvements. In addition, the 4:52 AM run will only run Monday through Friday. An updated schedule for the branch can be found here.  There is no timeline for the completion of the project. As commuter traffic into New York City is obviously pretty light right now, this seems like a good time to do this project with minimal inconvenience to NYC and lower Fairfield County commuters.

All buses will be disinfected regularly throughout the day, and passengers will be seated in a manner to maintain appropriate social distancing, according to the MTA.

Also, according to the City of Danbury, road construction began on Delno Drive in Danbury this morning (May 13.) This construction will not result in any road closures during the construction period. However, the possibility of travel restrictions does exist. There will be no on-street parking during the construction period, which is expected to last approximately 2 to 3 weeks. Delno Drive is a cul-de-sac off of King Street. The City thanks residents for their patience during the construction period.
