It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Downtown Danbury, and Saturday night, hundreds turned out for what has become an annual tradition.

The annual Light the Lights festival featuring the great oak in downtown Danbury took place Saturday evening with special appearances by Mayor Mark Boughton and Santa Claus.

There was a slight chill in the air, but that didn't stop anyone from enjoying the festivities, including the street magicians, the Charlie Brown Holiday Dance Troop, and the St. Joseph Church School Choir.

Of course, no tree lighting would be complete without the Danbury Fire Department with their pre-lit trucks, and the arrival of Santa himself.

Patricia Hembrook, the managing director of City Center Danbury, and one of the people responsible for the tree lighting recently told newstimes.com:

We put lights all through that big oak and we have these lights that look like icicles moving on it, then we light the smaller junipers around the plaza and the median gets lit. The icicle lights with their special sparking patterns produce the `oohs' and `aahs' that people expect from a tree lighting.

Joe Cavo is the Danbury Common Council President, and he was also part of the tree lighting, he's a big fan of the retro street lights.

We're thrilled the city went back to the retro lights a few years back. Hats off to the folks at City Center for working so hard on this event every year, it was another great turnout, and it was especially fun seeing all the kids, they love this event, and that's what it's all about this time of year.
