Danbury’s Decrepit Amphenol Eyesore Behind Police Station to Be Demolished
Finally, a major 5 1/2 acre Danbury blight scheduled for tear-down and cleanup.
According to an article at ctinsider.com, The 100,000 square foot Amphenol factory that was condemned and turned over to the city of Danbury was $1.1 million behind on taxes and city fees. For two decades the property sat vacant as it slowly deteriorated.
Mayor Mark has a plan for the property once the old factory has been demolished and removed and the one-acre that's usable is cleaned up. He told ctinsider.com. that the city plans on putting up basketball courts.Amphenol Factory Building - photo credit - Google Instant Street View
Mayor Mark also remarked that the City will not be developing the property where the Amphenol factory stood because the ground is now contaminated with arsenic, mercury, and other industrial chemicals.
You may remember that the City took control of the old Mallory Hat Factory on Rose Hill Ave. which will be cleaned up and used by the Women's Center of Greater Danbury to build a residential facility.
