Greater Danbury Towns Rank Among the Safest Cities in Connecticut

You can rest a little easier tonight. A new report is just out on the safest cities in Connecticut and Greater Danbury is well represented.

If you live in Danbury, Bethel, Brookfield, Newtown, Ridgefield or New Milford you're living in one of the safest cities in the entire state.

According to a new report by securitybaron.com, those six Greater Danbury towns scored high marks and made the 2019 list of the safest cities in Connecticut.

So what factors are used to determine if a city is indeed one of the safest in the state? The company used the FBI’s 2017 and 2016 Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) data to choose their top picks, based on factors like: murder rate, rape rate, robbery rate, assault rate, burglary rate, theft rate, vehicle theft rate, arson rates, and median Income.

Based on these factors, 92 cities in Connecticut where listed this year, and here's how some of the towns in Greater Danbury placed on the list.

Right near the top of the list at #2 was Newtown with a safety score of 89.89. Ridgefield placed 4th with a safety score of 89.62. Brookfield was #12 with a safety score of 87.69, followed by Bethel at #25 with a safety score of 86.2, New Milford came in at #28 and had a safety score of 84.7. Danbury placed #42 on the list with a safety score of 81.95.

So why was Danbury almost half way down on the list? There were two factors that played a role. Both violent crime and property crime were up in the Hat City from the last survey.

The top city in the state was Easton with a safety score of 91.86, with no violent crimes, and a very low level of property crimes. The lowest city on the list was Hartford at #92 with a safety score of just 55.27.
