It's unbelievable that people would try and prey on the public's fear of the COVID-19 virus, but it's happening.

Seems like every time there's a national emergency or catastrophe, there's one thing you can count on, and that's that scammers will try and take advantage of the situation.

It's happening right now with a malicious text message that's been circulating warning you that someone you know has been exposed to the virus, and you need to self isolate, and get tested. Then there's a link they want you to click on....DON'T.

Police in Thomaston, Maine, took to their Facebook page to warn people:

This is not the only COVID-19 scam. There are many others ranging from getting vaccine's to home test kits scams. The Federal Trade Commission Consumer Information page has an entire list of all the smart phone, email, and computer scams you should be watching out for.

If you have received any of these messages on your smart phone or computer or laptop, make sure you report them immediately  to the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint.
