I got a text from a friend that lives in Prospect last night alerting me to a huge police/fire/rescue situation in Waterbury's East Mountain last night, and we just got confirmation of terrible news. According to the press release we just received from Waterbury Police Lieutenant David Silverio, two young men lost their lives last night after drowning in the East Mountain Reservoir.

At 6:40PM last evening, July 28, 2020, Waterbury and Prospect Fire and Police, the Connecticut State Police, EMS, and the Region 5 Dive team all responded to the reservoir to check on a report that two people had fallen off their air mattress flotation devices, and had disappeared into the water.

Several young adults had been swimming in the reservoir, and the two male victims, aged 24 and 17, capsized, struggled in the water, went under, and did not come back up. Divers eventually located both victims, who were both pronounced deceased after being transported to Saint Mary's Hospital.

The names of the deceased are not being released until next-of-kin notification, and an examination by the Chief medical Examiner's office is complete. The investigation into this horrible accident remains open and active.
