Drive-In Movie Series Coming To Ridgefield In June

Drive-In events have become more popular as people, businesses and towns work through ways to maintain social distancing while providing some fun activities. Now, thanks to the hard work of a Ridgefield business owner, Drive-In movies will play at Ridgefield High School on Saturday nights in June.

According to an article on HamletHub, Billy Craig, who owns Craig's Fine Jewelry, spearheaded the effort to bring Drive-In movies to Ridgefield High School. The movies will show at 9 PM on Saturday nights through June, with the parking lot open at 8 PM. Craig found a big screen, which he said was a bit of a challenge, and the Ridgefield Playhouse got the rights to show the films.

Here's the schedule of movies:

June 6- Legally Blonde. This is a tip of the cap to the Ridgefield High students that were supposed to stage "Legally Blonde" this year, but couldn't due to the shutdown.

June 13- Dirty Dancing.

June 20- Grease.

June 27- Field of Dreams.

All moviegoers must stay in their cars to comply with the social distancing orders issued by the state. all cars will have an empty parking space adjacent to theirs. Craig told HamletHub that the parking lot can accommodate at least 100 cars. With a late start on the movies, he hopes that attendees will patronize a Ridgefield business for take out or outdoor dining before the show. All of the screenings will be free. The movies will be shown by the high school gym with parking in the big adjacent lot. The Ridgefield Playhouse's Executive Director, Allison Stockel, said that if the series is well received, there is a possibility that the movies could be extended further into the summer.
