Jay W. Barrett of West Haven is one of Donald Trump's biggest supporters, and on Tuesday, he got a chance to cross another item off his bucket list.

Jay is currently fighting for his life and is unfortunately in the late stages of cystic fibrosis. One of his last wishes has been to attend a Trump rally, and take a trip to Washington, D.C. This past Sunday (March 3) Jay was moved from Yale New Haven Hospital to home hospice care, so time was definitely running out.

Enter Jay's sister, Bridgette Hoskie, a First District City Council member and a Democrat, who set out to make her brother’s wish come true. In a very bipartisan move, she rallied the community through social media to reach out to the President on behalf of her younger brother. The story that first appeared in the New Haven Register went National and was able to help area politicians as they sought to get either a card or e-mail sent to Jay from the President. Neither Jay or his sister Bridgette could have expected what happened next.

On Tuesday, Bridgette got word that the President had heard about Jay's wish, and that she should expect a call sometime in the late afternoon. She rushed home from work to be with her brother, but kept the call a secret until it finally happened:

Needless to say, Jay was surprised, and probably a little shocked, about the call from President Trump, and expressed to ctpost.com how happy he was that the Commander in Chief took the time to get in touch with him.

I can’t believe that he called — I’m ecstatic about it. It was an amazing experience.
