Shortening the commute by one hour between Danbury and Grand Central could be a game-changer!

According to apnews.com., back in April, Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton sat down with Metro-North President Cathy Rinaldi and state DOT Commissioner, Joe Giulietti to talk about upgrading service on the outdated Danbury branch. After the get-together that was held inside a railroad car, Giulietti commented,

The first thing that you have to see is that the political will is there and the mayor has definitely expressed that political will.

On Thursday, September 5, the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council awarded Danbury a $1 million study grant. Mayor Mark Boughton explained to Lou and me that the money will be allocated to explore costs and procedures to refurbish 14 miles of the old Maybrook rail line from Danbury to Metro-North's Harlem Line in Southeast.

The ultimate goal is to shave down the Danbury to Manhattan commute which currently takes two hours down to only one hour. Mayor Mark is also gung-ho on making the Danbury Train Station into an all-out transit center.
