Danbury Pet Store Owner Arrested (Again)

A former Hudson Valley pet store owner has once again been arrested on charges he abused an animal in his Danbury store. The Danbury News Times reports Richard Doyle faces charges of animal cruelty after he allegedly performed a procedure on a sick dog shortly after facing similar charges in the Hudson Valley.

Doyle stands accused of attempting to drain a cyst on the elbow of a St. Bernard puppy without a license to do so, and without the assistance of a veterinarian. In order for a pet to be sold, a vet must verify the animal is healthy. The animal then gets check-ups every 15 days. A witness claimed Doyle was attempting to operate on the animal himself so he could sell the animal while not having to pay to get the work done properly.

Doyle owned American Breeders: Puppies & Kittens pet shop in the Dutchess Shopping Plaza in Wappingers Falls closed down last January while the Danbury location closed in early 2016. This is his third arrest since July of 2015.
