‘American Idol’ Powerhouse Gabby Barrett Takes on a Lee Ann Womack Classic [Watch]
If you have been watching American Idol this season, you know that competitor Gabby Barrett is a vocal powerhouse. But it wasn't until her performance of the Lee Ann Womack classic "I Hope You Dance"on Sunday (May 6) that fans truly saw what she is made of.
"In my opinion, that may be one of the best vocals we have heard in this room thus far,” judge Luke Bryan told her after the performance. “You just really did something amazing for yourself in this competition."
What might even be more impressive is that Barrett went from showing her country chops to showing her R&B chops, singing Prince’s "How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore" in her next performance:
Barrett’s growth is obvious from week to week — she says it's something has been working on since the very beginning. "Throughout the whole entire contest, its been a growing process since trying out for the show," she tells Taste of Country in a recent interview. "My dad always said that you need to continue to learn and grow to be happy, so I think I have tried to take the (judge’s) critiques and improve everyday. I try everyday to give it my 110%."
"I truly care about my fellow contestants," she says. "We have really bonded this season. There has been no drama between all of us whatsoever. The farther and farther we go together, that bond just gets stronger and stronger."
