Get Ready - First Snow of the Season Expected in Greater Danbury

You knew it was inevitable. The first actual snow of the season is heading our way, then temperatures will bottom out again and it gets bitterly cold.

Last week, most of us missed out on that official first snowfall of the season. Well, looks like we're going to get another opportunity Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. Then, we can all get ready for the big freeze after that.

According to the National Weather Service, Tuesday will start off kind of mild, with some rain around, then the rain changes to a brief period snow late Tuesday morning. Don't get too excited about the snow, because it will be short-lived with a coating to 1" expected. There is a slight risk for some 2" amounts in the higher terrain. Some slippery travel possible with falling temperatures.

Speaking of falling temps, northwest wind gusts of 25 to 40 mph will usher in record cold Tuesday night and Wednesday. Lows should be mainly in the teens to lower 20s. Highs Wednesday in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Wind chills between 5 below and 10 above late Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Record cold is possible. By the way, the record low for Nov. 13 in Connecticut is 18 degrees, which was set in 2001.
