Got Squid? The Five Best Places For Calamari in Connecticut
It's the type of food that makes kids squeal and run away, but it's also the food that makes adults like me drool. Squid is definitely an acquired taste, but if you love eating calamari in the Summertime, here are my five favorite restaurants to get the briny treat in our area.
- 1
Lenny & Joe's Fish Tale
Located in New Haven, Madison, and Westbrook. Lenny & Joe's is a CT shoreline institution for the best reason, they serve up incredible fresh calamari, and fry it up with a delicious light breading. It truly makes them one of the best squid peddlers in the area.
- 2
Saybrook Fish House
With locations in Canton and Rocky Hill, the chefs at Saybrook Fish House obviously know their calamari. The rest of the menu is filled out with tried and true sea fare. Try their Whole Belly Clams while you're there, superb!
- 3
D'Amelio's Italian Eatery
Located on Highland Avenue in Waterbury, D'Amelio's has been serving up incredible Italian cuisine for decades. Their Calamari Piccante and Calamari Fritti will have you singing "That's Amore" just like Dean-o.
- 4
Nino's Trattoria
Located on Scott Road in Waterbury. I've been going to Nino's for their calamari since the early 90's. The decor may have changed over the years, but their excellent calamari has not.
- 5
Matunuck Oyster Bar
Located in South Kingstown, RI, I know this isn't a Connecticut restaurant, but it's the place where I had the best calamari in my life. Located next to the motherland of squid, Point Judith, you must try their Pt. Judith Calamari, it's perfect in every way.
