What?!! No peanuts?!

This past February, according to the Hartford Courant, Yard Goats management decided that peanuts at the ballpark were to become a banned substance during the upcoming 2019 baseball season.

The peanut-free decision at Dunkin' Donuts Park home games gained national attention. Team president, Tim Restall began receiving angry letters and voicemails from Yard Goat fans admonishing the elimination of the age-old tradition of peanuts at the ballpark. The fans wanted to know why.

Here's why. According to Medpagetoday.com., 1.2 million children and teens have peanut allergies, which eliminate them from attending any professional ballgames. Here's what Team president, Tim Restall told the Courant,

The way we look at it, if we eliminate this one item to allow kids to enjoy a baseball game, that's what it all comes down to. Why prevent someone from catching a foul ball or getting a picture with mascots Chompers and Chew Chew because of a food item?

What's another upside of the peanut ban? The Yard Goats just sold out their double-header against Harrisburg. In fact, the team has sold out the park 51 out of 67 home games. When the home schedule wraps up on August 28 and 29, the Hartford Yard Goats will lead the Eastern League in attendance with an average of 6,200 per game.
