One of the coolest spots in Connecticut that supports local crafts and artists is getting ready for the holiday shopping season with a bit of a face lift. In a world of push and pull, it's really great to see people join together for a simple act of helping out.

I've spent almost 20 years driving past the Brookfield Craft Center twice a day on my way to and from work. The iconic red barn side dipping down to the stream below is a local favorite, and a staple of all kinds of artists and more. Not only can you find one of a kind items, you can also work on your craft.

One of the best things about the Brookfield Craft Center, is its legendary teaching program.

Sadly, the craft center’s historic sign marking the scenic and historic campus was in dire need of a face lift. On the center's website, Howard Lasser, the center's Executive Director had this to say:

It has been almost 20 years since it was last painted. We recognize the historical significance of this effort. The sign represents a key part of Brookfield’s agrarian history. We are so pleased that the community has been so generous, supporting our effort to preserve a part of the town’s history.

Take a moment to enjoy the sign when you stop in to do your holiday shopping. So many unique items are available, as the Brookfield Craft Center’s Annual Holiday Craft Sale kicks off on Friday Nov. 11 from 5 pm - 8 pm. That herald's that start of the holiday shopping season with so many one-of-a-kind items, I'm betting you'll pick up gifts for yourself too.

The Brookfield Craft Center is on 286 Whisconier Road, Rte. 25, Brookfield CT. The hours are Tue.-Fri. noon - 5 pm and Sat. 11 am-5 pm, Sun. noon-4 pm. You can call  (203) 775-4526 for more info.

Feel free to pick me up a little something while you're there, I'm always willing to receive.
