So, I got to thinking, since it's National Pizza Day (Feb. 9), and pizza definitely has a personality, what kind of pizza would some of the towns in our area be?

Now, I don't mean any disrespect, nor am I out to tick anyone off, because I know personal preference of pizza toppings can lead to some heated debates. I just thought I'd have some fun with this, based on the perceptions of some of these towns.

If your town was a pizza, what kind would it be?

  • Danbury: Since there is such an international flair in this town (Did you know there are over 88 languages spoken at Danbury High School?) then it would have to be an everything pizza loaded with just about every topping you can think of.
  • Dover Plains: It's the home of the Dragons, and you know what dragons are best known for -- breathing fire. So, you guessed it, a pizza topped with hot peppers or wasabi. Roll that around in your mouth a little.
  • Ridgefield: "The Gold Coast of Greater Danbury". The tastes here are healthy and unique, so this pizza is topped with Kale, Broccoli Rabe, Swiss Chard, and Quinoa. You could say a real "upper crust" kind of pie.
  • Bethel: This one wasn't easy, but when I think of Bethel, I always think of the Sycamore Drive-In. It's a landmark in town and known for having the best burgers in Connecticut. Therefore, this pizza has to have meat on it -- preferably crumbled steak burger. Now that's eats.
  • Fishkill: Now you may think the name is somewhat harsh, but the "kill" in Fishkill actually means creek, river bed, or water channel. Therefore, this pizza has to have fish -- anchovies, maybe even a little kelp wouldn't hurt.
  • New Milford: The gateway to Litchfield County and where you get the most bang for your buck. Now I would be lying if I tried to top this pizza with all kinds of exotic topping, that's just not who the people of New Milford are. This pizza will be a salad pizza with a special extra topping of some stinky Limburger cheese. Why the Limburger? Do you remember the old Nestle's plant -- need I say more?

Now if I didn't mention your town, think about the overall perception of it, and come up with a topping to match, it's that simple. You may be surprised of the pizza you've created. By the way, enjoy National Pizza Day.
