Jericho Volunteers Provide Classroom Help for Kids With Working Parents

Jericho Partnership volunteers in Danbury are stepping up to help out working parents by acting as classroom monitors to keep their kids engaged during the day. Here's how it works. While Danbury students are on full-time remote learning, Jericho volunteers will give young students space and supervision while their parents work from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Imagine having to choose between either staying home to monitor your kids with their remote learning or risk leaving your children at home unsupervised while you go to work to put food on the table.

The volunteers work in two-hour blocks by keeping students engaged in Google Classroom. The adult volunteers act as monitors by helping students navigate the platform and ensure COVID-19 safety protocols are followed. This is what Jericho's President Carrie L. Amos stated on their website:

This crisis has created opportunity. It's time to move away from the 'old way' of tutoring kids, and into new and exciting ways to have them really engage with the world around them. We believe it will benefit them in the classroom and beyond.

 Jericho Partnership is a ministry-based nonprofit organization "dedicated to serving the at-risk community of Danbury, CT, focusing on issues related to life and health, our youth, those in need materially, and neighborhood transformation."

Currently, Jericho has 20 Kindergarten-5th grade students in the 'Remote Learning Support' program with plans to add many more, but they need more volunteers.
