The deal is done and it's official. Danbury's sewer plant is now called the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant. Oliver recently met with Danbury Mayor, Mark Boughton for a secret ribbon cutting ceremony. The deal was that if the city named the sewer plant after Oliver, he would donate $50 thousand plus dollars to local charities. Both sides held up their end and they had some fun along the way.

The saga began back in August when Oliver said, among other things, "F--- Danbury" on his show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. From then on, their verbal barbs  exchanged on the his show and through social media.

Mayor Boughton jokingly said he would name the sewer plant after Oliver, Oliver responded saying he needed this and offered up a handsome financial reward in return. The city council voted on the matter deciding that it was too good of a deal to pass up and all that was left to do was have Oliver come to the Hat City to cut the ribbon.

That meeting was done in secret and I happen to know it was done awhile back. Apparently, Oliver did not want to draw a crowd, maybe he is very COVID cautious or thought someone from Danbury would take him up on that fight he offered to have with all of Danbury, even our children.

I'm just glad it's over and done with.
