Lawmakers Ready to Make Pizza Connecticut’s Official Food

Connecticut's love affair with pizza has convinced two New Haven legislators to draw up a bill that will make pizza the state's official food as reported by the Newstimes.

Apizza has been the rage in Connecticut since it was introduced in 1925. You might be asking, what is apizza? This pizza style refers to a thin, chewy, crispy and charred crust made in coal-fired ovens.

The 'Proposed House Bill 5656' to make pizza the official food of Connecticut has been drafted by Rep. Patricia Dillon and Sen. Gary Winfield and has been submitted for the 2021 legislative session, and it's one sentence long:

To recognize the contribution of pizza to the state's cuisine and economy.

There's even a petition at change.org that's been launched to bring awareness to the bill. The Daily Meal, which is about All Things Food & Drinks, recently released 'The Daily Meal's "101 Best Pizzas in America"' list, and it was no surprise that Connecticut was one of the states that dominated.

Frank Pepe's topped the list as the best pizza in the United States. Also in the top 100 were Sally's Apizza, Modern Apizza, and BAR, all in New Haven, along with Stamford's Colony Grill and Zuppardi's Apizza in West Haven.
