It's been a long, hot summer and there's nothing like a day at the beach.

"Let the good times roll" time is slowly winding down. We just came off a heat wave that scorched us day and night. Nothing like taking a cool dip to make it all better.

Sadly, the end of summer is fast approaching, and that means the presence of lifeguards at state park swimming areas is also ending.

In a press release, the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) says that while lifeguards will be on duty at several busy swimming areas this weekend and over the Labor Day holiday weekend, coverage will come to an end after that.

The DEEP also says that most of the state park swimming areas are unguarded on weekdays from now through Labor Day. Signs will be posted that there are no lifeguards on duty.

If you are planning on stretching out the good times at the beach, you can expect lifeguards this weekend and Labor Day weekend at Hammonasset Beach State Park, Squantz Pond State Park and Rocky Neck State Park. Lifeguards are scheduled for Labor Day weekend at Indian Well State Park and Silver Sands State Park, too.

I have to tell you, I hated writing this! I don't ever want the Summer to end :(
