Loretta Lynn's family blames the dog for the singer's fall and fractured hip. New details reveal the 85-year-old slipped on New Year's Day and is now rehabilitating.

Lynn's daughter, Patsy, tells People her mother is putting weight on the fractured hip and beginning rehab. "She's strong," Patsy Lynn tells the magazine. "It's amazing she's able to go through all she's been through. She had a stroke in May and has been having band rehearsals and getting around great by herself."

The younger Lynn adds that prior to the incident her mother had also been recording and finishing up an album, and she's frustrated to be laid up watching television once again. She had made limited appearances since the May 2017 stroke, including to induct Alan Jackson at the Country Music Hall of Fame in October.

As for the fall? It could have been the icon's new puppy, Patsy jokes — although she concedes that the dog also brings smiles, so it's difficult to stay too mad. "We don't really know if she was chasing after the puppy or what, but she slid and fractured her hip," Patsy says.

This is the first new information about the incident since Lynn's sister Crystal Gayle revealed the news earlier this week. In her tweet she described a more grim outlook, saying only that the "Coal Miner's Daughter" singer was doing as well as can be expected.

Lynn is universally loved as one of country music's all-time great singers with pull-no-punches hits like "The Pill," "Fist City" and "You Ain't Woman Enough." The Country Music Hall of Famer has been beset by health troubles over the last five years, but in each case she's returned to the stage and recording studio.
