If you've ever watched Parks & Rec, you'd imagine that the citizens would rally for a dog park, a new commercial building, etc. Danbury Mayor, Mark Boughton, who has been in the news a lot over the past week, took to his social media accounts to announce that he has made a decision on a piece of empty property in the city, and I'd like to say that it's heartwarming, and I'd like to share the Mayor's decision with you.

Mayor Boughton has announced that the City of Danbury is selling the property located at 89 Rose Hill Avenue to The Women's Center of Greater Danbury, and to quote Mayor Mark - this is "One of my proudest moments as Mayor". I took the image of the property from Google Maps to show you what the area looked like recently:

The best thing about this transaction? It cost The Women's Center of Greater Danbury only $1 to assume ownership of this land. Which will now be cleared, and a brand-new facility will be built on that property.

If you're not familiar with The Women's Center of Greater Danbury, it was founded in 1975, and their current address is 2 West Street. They are a non-profit dedicated to be a safe-haven for victims of domestic and sexual violence, offering multiple services, and shelter in their 13 bed facility, Elizabeth House. Each year, the Center helps out over 30,000 individuals in our community with free, and confidential services.

Before Mayor Boughton leaves this great city for that tax job up in Hartford, take a minute if you see him this week, and shake his hand and thank him, not just for this, which is a beautiful gesture, but for everything he has done for Danbury over the past couple of decades. Thank you, sir.
