The case of Nathan Carman and what exactly happened to his mother, Linda, continues to be murky. Will a memorial service take place?

I've been following the twists and turns of the fateful fishing trip in September that left Nathan Carman lost at sea for eight days before he was rescued. His mother, Linda, has never been found, and is presumed dead.

To me, one of the most interesting turns is in a blog I wrote on September 28 titled Connecticut Man Found At Sea Was Murder Suspect, Court Records Say. From that point on, I knew this story was not going away.

Over the weekend, I was reading the Hartford Courant, and came across the story in which Nathan Carman was planning a memorial service on October 26 for his mother, Linda, whose body has still not been found.

According to courant.com, Nathan has been calling friends of his grandparents as well as family friends to invite them to a memorial service scheduled for Wednesday.  To me, the BIG twist to the story is that apparently, Nathan didn't check with any of his mom's three sisters about the memorial, or invite them.

Add to that, the fact that his aunts have hired a law firm to represent them. Their attorney, Dan Small, issued a statement making it clear that the three sisters have nothing to do with the planned memorial. Small told the Hartford Courant:

Linda's friends and family want to make clear that they are not involved in this event. They believe that it is premature and inappropriate to stage this kind of an event when there is an ongoing investigation into Linda's disappearance.

On Sunday, October 23, the Hartford Courant published a follow-up story stating that the Archdiocese of Hartford says there is no memorial Mass scheduled for Linda Carman.

Given the fact that police from at least four states have begun investigating the circumstances around the sinking of the boat, this is not a story going away any time soon. When you consider the mystery around the unsolved murder of Nathan's grandfather and the amount of money Linda and her sisters are expected to receive from his estate, I believe the new mystery of this ill-fated fishing trip will be around for a while.
