More Than 30 Cars Blow Out Tires Near I-84 On-Ramp

Commuters and State Police alike had a very interesting start to the week on a rainy Monday morning.

According to a press release from the Connecticut State Police, an estimated 34 cars received flat tires due to a large piece of metal that was obstructing the roadway right near the on-ramp from I-84 westbound to the northbound side Route 8. The reports from drivers started coming just prior to 8:00 AM on Monday, April 8.

Apparently, it was quite the scene, with many of the disabled vehicles being forced to stop in the shoulder of the ramp. The CT Department of Transportation responded with the State Farm Safety Patrol and a whole bunch of flat beds and tow trucks. The large piece of metal was reportedly removed with a payloader.

In their release to the media, "Troopers remind motorists to use caution when attempting to avoid objects in the roadway. Reduce speed if possible. If you do strike an object in the roadway, turn on vehicles hazard lights, and move as far right as possible and call 911 for assistance."
