Most Dangerous Road In New York Claims Another Victim

As we've written about in the past, the Taconic Parkway has been considered as the most dangerous road in New York State.

I call the Taconic Parkway, "The Beauty and the Beast." As beautiful as this parkway is to travel, it continues to claim its victims and it's happened again. From the Pleasantville Daily Voice comes word of a 71-year-old man who died when he drove off an embankment on the Taconic into the woods near Exit 13, traveling southbound in Yorktown. The day before, a 25-year-old man slammed into a tree while driving the Taconic in Mt. Pleasant. He had to be extricated from his vehicle, as his injuries were serious but non-life threatening.

In the years ending July 2014, there have been 2,080 crashes on the Taconic. Troopers have issued 54,000 tickets to drivers over the last seven years. Onlyinyourstate.com sites the Pudding Street intersection as one of the most dangerous on the Taconic.

The cover photo shows one of the most dangerous intersections where Peekskill Hollow Road intersects with the Taconic. Cars speed down into the ravine where there's stone walls on one side and a steep drop on the other. It almost makes you wonder what were the engineers thinking when they designed the Parkway. My advice as a regular driver on the Taconic, DO NOT drive it at night if you don't have to and, DO NOT drive over the speed limit.
