Nashville fans can now get their first peek at Season 5: CMT has shared a brief trailer for the TV drama's upcoming new season.

Readers can press play above to watch the 15-second clip, which gives a few small hints at the drama coming when Season 5 premieres in January. As previously reported, Will Chase and Aubrey Peeples will not be returning for the new season, but Charles EstenSam Palladio, Jonathan Jackson, Clare BowenLennon Stella, Maisy Stella, Chris CarmackHayden Panettiere and Connie Britton will all be back. Additionally, Jen Richards and Carolina Chocolate Drops co-founder Rhiannon Giddens have joined the cast, and showrunners are casting for the role of Clay, “a creative, self-aware, highly motivated young man who suffers intense mood swings, but is nonetheless charming and outgoing.”

Nashville's fourth season ended on a major cliffhanger involving Panettiere's character Juliette Barnes -- a plot twist that show creator Callie Khouri and showrunner Dee Johnson had planned originally, prior to the show's cancellation. The cliffhanger was a deliberate move to help secure a new network for the TV drama; “if we didn’t feel that was going to happen, we might have gone a different way," Lionsgate TV chairman Kevin Beggs said at the time.

Season 5 of Nashville will premiere on CMT on Jan. 5. The network picked up the show for a fifth season in early June, following ABC’s cancellation of the TV drama in mid-May, and thanks in part to fan demandNashville will be broadcast and streamed on CMT, and also streamed on Hulu, which currently carries the show’s previous seasons.
