Naugatuck Police Release Video of 4th of July Fireworks Mishap

The Naugatuck Police Department just released video of last week's explosion at the city's 4th of July fireworks celebration at Breens Field. The explosion occurred Thursday July 2 at around 9:40PM. The video starts out with a couple of successful fireworks launches, and then the large ground explosion is captured, plus they throw in a couple of images of the aftermath.

You can see from the aftermath photos, the incredible force that blew apart the shells that launch the fireworks. According to the Naugatuck PD, the cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and you can see that this was no ordinary firework that went off, it was commercial-grade, and very luckily, no one was injured.

It is a good time to reiterate Connecticut's policies in regards to fireworks: If you're under the age of 16, Connecticut doesn't want you to use anything. If you're 16 or older, you can legally own and use sparklers and fountains, which can only produce sparks, no explosions. That's it. What's illegal here in Connecticut? Any fireworks that explodes or flies. So all firecrackers, Roman candles, bottle rockets, and all projectile fountain fireworks are illegal. Basically, any firework that contains explosive or flammable compounds are no go here in the Nutmeg State.

The people putting on the show at Breens Field are very lucky, after a couple of hours, they safely detonated the remaining works around midnight, waking up quite a few people in the Valley in the process. I saw some Facebook posts from Beacon Falls and Seymour saying that they felt that detonation. Scary stuff.
