Ayyyyyy, paisan! Kay-se-deech, ah? You ready to mangia some primo meatballs on Main Street South before you hit the Riverview Cinemas? Well, you'd better be, homeboy, because a new Italian restaurant is finally opening up in Southbury this week.

Mercato Italian Kitchen and Bar announced on their Facebook page today that they're officially planning to open their doors this Friday, December 21 at 4:00 PM.

I've seen a ton of activity in the Riverview Cinemas parking lot over the past few weeks, and I'm sure most of it was the final push of construction on this new place.

From what I can tell by looking at the photos they've posted, the owners of Mercato have dropped some serious cash on this place. Two absolutely huge wood-fired pizza ovens (That actually have names, Ella and Nour) will undoubtedly crank out some serious abeetz. It looks to be real wood heavy, with exposed beams and a lot of earth tones. Truly beautiful.

This is great news for Southbury, there has always been a good selection of diverse culinary destinations around town, and this is a great location for a big new place. Mercato is directly attached to the Riverview Cinemas at 690 Main Street South.
