New Milford Business Owner Wakes Up From 5-Week COVID Coma

Krista Strol, owner of Gerard's Marina in New Milford, was given a 10 percent chance of survival.

Strol spent six weeks in Danbury Hospital battling COVID-19. Five of those weeks she spent in a coma. Doctors predicted she had a 10 percent chance of survival. She remembers dreaming that her sister was visiting her and telling her to wake up while she was trapped inside her coma.

Strol, who owns Gerard's Marina in New Milford, was telling Hearst Connecticut Media what she remembered for that coma induced five weeks. She said her late mother and husband also made an appearance in her dreams.

I was talking to them and saying, "I'm not ready to go". I think that's inner strength that came out. You have to appreciate how thankful you are to everybody who helped keep you here.

After being out of the hospital for nearly 4 1/2 months, she hasn't regained feeling in her hands, toes, nor the tip of her tongue, and still has a breathing tube in her throat which may or may not be permanent.

As you may have read, the symptoms of COVID-19 are wide and varied. Some experience no symptoms at all. Some experience only mild symptoms like a dry cough and slight fever while others have difficulty taking a deep breath and are quickly fatigued and feel sicker than they've ever felt in their life.
