The FBI says in the coming weeks we may be vulnerable to cyber breaches at ATMs nationally and locally, especially at what they call small to medium financial institutions as reported by The Verge. Word is that they could be more prone to attacks because their security is weaker than larger ones.

The Verge states that according to Krebs Security:

The FBI has obtained unspecified reporting indicating cyber criminals are planning to conduct a global Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cash-out scheme in the coming days.

Somehow it seems malware used by theives could disrupt transactions, these new warnings state. The Verge also reports: The timing would likely fall on a weekend, just when banks start closing [presumably in the afternoon].

When I called my bank to ask if there was anything I could do preemptively, they said to frequently change my password, and be vigilant about checking my account statements.
