The 4th annual Newtown Yoga Festival is back this year on August 27.

The Newtown Yoga Festival was created in 2013 to be a holistic healing presence for Newtown and the surrounding communities that were effected by the terrible events at Sandy Hook Elementary in 2012. Over the years, the festival has seen outpouring support and has donated almost $14,000 to the Newtown community.

According to the Yoga Festival's website, their mission is to "promote positive well-being, health and community." Yoga has been proven to help with reducing stress and depression, which are side effects of physical and emotional trauma.

The Newtown Yoga Festival will be held at NYA Sports and Fitness at 4 Primrose Street in Newtown. The festival will kick off with registration at 9 AM, and then start with a festival welcome and morning warm up by Casey Dixon. There will be a number of different yoga themed events throughout the day, until 3 PM when Jennifer Zuilli leads you in the closing mantra.

This event is BYOM, which cleverly stands for, Bring Your Own Mat.
