Newtown First Responders + Good Samaritans Save Man’s Life

Police say a man is lucky to be alive after experiencing a medical emergency in Newtown.

According to the Newtown Police Department, officers responded to Mt. Pleasant Rd. in the area of Troy Lane early in the day on Saturday (July 27) after the reports of a pedestrian who had possibly been struck by a car. At the time, it was also reported that bystanders were already on the scene performing CPR on the individual.

When officers arrived, they took over the CPR duties while Firefighters from the Hawleyville FD used a defibrillator to shock the man's body. First reponders from Newtown Ambulance then arrived to transport the man in distress to Danbury Hospital.

After some investigating, police say it was determined that the man had not actually been hit by a car, but suffered some sort of medical emergency as he rode his bike uphill on Mt. Pleasant Rd.

Thankfully, not only did the unidentified man survive the medical emergency, but he is expected to make a full recovery. He even has already arranged to pick his bicycle up from the NPD.

In a statement about the incident, Lt. Aaron Bahamonde of the Newtown PD said, "I have been around a long time and have never witnessed an individual in this man's condition come back the way he did. It was truly a miracle and the direct result of good Samaritans, first responders and help from above coming together that this man is alive today."

It was a job well done by all involved and an extraordinary display of humanity.
