Newtown Football Places Second In 2020 ESPY Fan Voting
We told you last week about the Newtown High School Football team, and how they were in the running to win an ESPY for "Can't Stop Watching Moment of the Year".
The award ceremony went down Sunday night on ESPN, and although the last second touchdown pass from Quarterback Jack Street to Riley Ward captivated the nation, and gave the Nighthawks a 13-7 win over Darien, plus competed their undefeated season with a Class LL State Championship, the schools first since 1992, the video clip came in second place to the winning clip, a long 3-pointer by Jackson State men’s basketball team manager Thomas "Stacks" Lee.
Here's the clip that took the award for "Can't Stop Watching Moment of 2020"
Since it is a fan voted category, and people can vote from all over the country, the Newtown dramatic win just didn't have enough national support to make it the winner, however, the team did get national attention back in December. The entire Nighthawks team and cheerleaders made an appearance on NBC's Sunday Night Football's halftime spotlight.
According to ctpost.com, the dramatic win and video had to win two rounds of online voting to reach the final 4.
