First it was Danbury, then Bethel, and now Newtown becomes the latest local police department to try and get approval for a new police headquarters.

It all started a few years ago when the city of Danbury build a massive new complex on Main Street to house the Danbury Police. Then just recently, Bethel opened up a new building for their police headquarters, now the Newtown Police are trying to get approval for a new building to replace their old headquarters.

Bethel's new building just opened on Judd Avenue, and this past weekend, they had their dedication ceremony and offered tours of the new facility to local residence:

As far as Newtown goes, officials have been lobbying for a new building for more than 10 years now, and since the current headquarters was built in the 1980s, many on the force are saying that the building is too small for the departments needs.

According to the NPD Facebook page, members of the Board of Selectmen recently discussed various proposals for the new headquarters, including construction of a new building on the existing site, before settling on a plan to remodel the former Taunton Press building on South Main Street. Using an existing building could save the town more than $5 million.

Back in late October, the Newtown Police held their own open house, and residents were given tours of the current facility and the proposed new location on South Main Street.

Here's what Newtown Police Cheif James Viaderu posted on the departments Facebook page:
