Our IHOP Restaurants Have Announced They're Changing Their Name

An ancient Greek philosopher is often quoted as saying: "the only constant in life is change". Another thing that’s constant, we’ll probably dislike the change, and I'm not likin' this one.

IHOP Restaurants have announced that they’re changing their name, and will explain their new name on Monday June 11, 2018, according to the New York Post.

The name 'IHOP' has been around for 60 years, and stands for: International House of Pancakes. It will now be IHOB, (but it will appear as IHOb), and we can only ponder what the ‘b’ will stand for. Some have speculated that it will stand for breakfast.

The company’s Twitter account read:

For 60 pancakin’ years, we’ve been IHOP. Now, we’re flippin’ our name to IHOb. Find out what it could b on 6.11.18. #IHOb

And then an avalanche of backlash ensued on twitter. Here are some examples of the reaction in the twitterverse:

This is stupid. I refuse to call it #IHOb — you literally cannot make me.

Now my first reaction to all this was to check the calendar to see if it was April fool’s day, but a company rep affirmed to the New York Post that the name change is no joke.
