Brewster Schools are in lock down today (Tuesday) due to the possibility of high media activity in the district stemming from the arrest Monday of a Brewster High School educator.

Christopher L. Vlangas, who resides in Sherman, Connecticut was arrested by Danbury Police on Monday on felony rape charges in connection with an alleged sexual relationship with a student.

According to patch.com, and the Putnam County Sheriffs Office, Vlangas, who was the marching band advisor, and an ROTC instructor at Brewster High School has not been seen at the school since the investigation began about two weeks ago.

The charges against Vlangas are based upon the fact that he is over 21 and the student is under the age of 17. According to Police, even if the relationship was consensual, a person under 17 years old is deemed incapable of giving lawful consent in such cases.

The Putnam County Sheriffs Office is reporting that the sexual activity apparently took place in Southeast, and Patterson. Vlangas is being charged in Southeast with one count of a criminal sexual act and one count of rape in the third degree. He is charged in Patterson with two counts of rape in the third degree.

Since he was arrested in Connecticut, Vlangas was being held as a fugitive from justice to await his extradition to New York.

The Putnam County Sheriffs office has set up a hotline number and is asking anyone with information relevant to the case to call (845) 808-4377. Calls will be kept confidential.
