Driving too fast and running red lights is no way to drive a school bus.

According to a  press release from the Naugatuck Police Department, on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 6:05 pm the call came into the Naugatuck Police Department about a school bus driving recklessly, going too fast and running red lights. The person who notified police also said they saw what appeared to be two young people fighting inside the bus.

Police pulled the bus over on Spring St. and found the driver, 48-year-old Grace Macphail of Naugatuck, inside along with two juveniles. Macphail told police she had permission from her employer, First Student Bus Services of Middlebury. Police say that she told them she was driving fast and running stop signs because she was frightened that a car was following her.

As the officers entered the bus, they say it reeked of marijuana. They claim that when they asked Macphail about it, she said that the two juveniles on board were smoking pot, but she hadn't been. Upon further investigation, the officers reportedly found Macphail to be in possession of both marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Officers say that the two juveniles on the bus were both under the age of 18 and they they were not students in transport, but rather on was related to Macphail, while the other is said to be an acquaintance.

Based on the NPD's investigation, Grace Macphail of Naugatuck was charged with sale of a controlled substance, the risk of injury to a child, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree criminal trespass, and reckless driving.
