Machete: a large heavy knife used for cutting sugarcane, underbrush, and as a weapon. (Merriam Webster Dictionary)

Why does a 74-year-old man even own a machete? According to the Danbury Police Department and a story in the NewsTimes, Mariano Canales from Danbury began waving around a machete when he allegedly attempted to break through his housemates' door.

According to Danbury Police Detective Lt. Mark Williams, Canales began banging on another housemate's door in a house on Town Hill Ave., where everyone has their own room. Williams went on to say that Canales tried to break through the door with the machete.

Lt. Williams said in a statement that people in the room feared for their lives as they crawled out a second-story window as Canales kept yelling he would kill them. He was charged with second-degree burglary, carrying a dangerous weapon, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, threatening and reckless endangerment.

If you listen to I-95's Ethan and Lou Morning Show, you may have noticed we've had a slew of stories about various individuals waving around machetes. According to an article in the Daily Mail, there's one machete crime every 90 minutes on Britain's streets.
